The Last Jumu’ah in Ramadhan

This is the khutbah delivered at Masjid al-Furqan, Gateshead Friday 3rd September [Abu-Tayeb]

Last Khutbah Ramadhan

This is the last khutbah/Friday of Ramadhan.

Did you make the most of it?

Did you benefit your soul from it?

Deprived

Deprived is the one who never had his sins removed in this month.

Deprived is the one who never had his dua accepted in this month.

Deprived is the one who never got closer to Allah in this month.

The loser is the one who never changed his ways during this month.

Ramadaan is the month of righteousness and generosity, the month of forgiveness and liberation from Hell. It is all but gone now and nothing remains of it but a few moments.

It came & it went

Yesterday, we were congratulating each other on the arrival of the month; today we are consoling one another over its departure and invoking Allaah to accept all our acts of worship.

Good deeds & bad deeds

In this noble month, many have done good deeds while others have done the opposite. These are going to testify for or against us on the Day of Reckoning. We do not know whether we are going to live to witness this glorious month again or not.

Perfect acts of worship

Therefore, the fortunate Muslim during this month was the one who was able to perfect their acts of worship with sincerity and self-examination and end it with sincere repentance, for acts are judged according to their ends.

‘Indeed, Allaah accepts only from the righteous” (Al Maa’idah: 27).

Missed the blessings of Ramadhan

Whose loss is greater than he who missed the blessings of Ramadaan?

When will the one who did not reform himself during the month of Ramadaan ever do so?

When will the one who was not cured from the sickness of ignorance and heedlessness in this month ever get cured?

O you who have committed great sins!

These few remaining blessed days are an opportunity for you to repent, for whoever is librated from Hell has indeed won a great reward. As for you, who have been liberated from Hell by your Lord; do not shackle yourself in sins again. Is it rational to be moving closer to Hell after your Lord has pardoned you from it?

Dear brothers do more good deeds, for some of you may not live to see the end of this year.

Let the negligent ones among you seize the opportunity of this outgoing month in doing righteous deeds before it is too late.

WAKE UP! and remember the terrible fate that awaits you; let them try to spend the rest of their lives doing good deeds.

Check yourself!

Fellow Muslims! Let us look at our present condition in light of the effects Ramadaan had on us. Let us compare our condition at the start of Ramadaan to our condition now: Was the advent of Ramadaan something that made us become pious?

Did it reform our actions and conduct? Did it unify our ranks against our enemies? Did it remove the hatred and rancour between us? Did it eliminate the evil deeds committed by our communities?

Part 2

Muslims have recently spent a whole month enjoying the blessings of their Lord between supplication, prayer, remembrance of Allaah, alms giving and recitation of the Qur’aan. But, alas, the days and their memories of them have passed away so quickly, as if they were autumn leaves blown away by a strong wind.

Laziness & Negligence after ramadhan

Dear Muslims! When one compares the people’s spiritual condition during Ramadaan to that after it, they will certainly see signs of laziness and negligence in terms of performing righteous deeds. It is as if acts of worship and repentance were only meant for Ramadaan!

Don’t be ignorant! Allaah is the Lord of all months and Ramadaan “So that you may attain piety”. (Al-Baqarah: 183).

Understand the reality of worship and its internal impact on us – and not its outward forms.

Some of us who have nothing to show for their fasting except hunger and thirst and will have no reward for their worship except tiredness and sleeplessness.

Where are the hearts that are submissive to Allaah? Many hearts have become fertile ground for heedlessness.

The youth are stuck in their exuberance for this life and the elders are doing no righteous deeds.

We have neglected the Book of our Lord publicly and privately and therefore we are as far from sincere deeds as Mount Safaa is from Mount Marwah.

Allaah says that which translates as: “Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’aan, or are there locks (upon) their hearts? Indeed those who reverted back (to disbelief) after guidance had become clear to them – Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.” (Muhammad: 24-25).

Brothers in Islaam! Continue in your good deeds even after Ramadaan.

3 Advices:

1. Be constant in observing the five obligatory prayers and other acts of worship.

Know also that it is only the evil people who know and worship Allaah in Ramadaan only.

2. Continue to read the Quran daily – even a small  amount.

3. Continue to come to the Masjid – You are blessed with this masjid – Use it! Give your charity to support the masjid.

Exam Results

Assalamualaikum,

just wanted to say to all those kids that didnt recieve the results they wanted, that it really isnt the end of the world.

I wanted to study medicine and as alot of people know there is alot of pressure to get the very best grades to stand a chance of getting in, and I was very worried.

I prepared for medicine all of my school life, and it turned out that I didnt get the grades i needed, gcse and Alevels. I was distraught but i turned to Allah swt and I realised that may be medicine wasnt for me, and that Allah has planned better things for me insh’Allah. And now I am off to university soon to study Biomedical Science thanks to Allah swt.

Im not good with exams and revision, at all! And I know there are alot of people who can relate to me, and for those people I would like to say that you dont need great results to have a successful life. GCSE’s and Alevels are just memory tests, you memorise a whole load of boring information and then regurgitate it all on a peice of paper in exam conditions.. now who can say that that is intelligence? intelligence is not a peice of paper with a whole load of A’s written on, there is so many me things that Allah has provided us with in order to have the successful life we all need, we just have to search for it :)

hope this helps! jazakallah khair
