The Arabic Caligraphy Workshop
The Arabic Calligraphy workshop
This is to tell a little about a series of Arabic Calligraphy workshop I will be
delivering in the next few months sponsored by the Pakistani Cultural Society.
Date
Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April 12 noon – 3pm
Venue: EMTEP 2 Shipley Avenue. Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 9RA 0191 273 3099
About the workshop
Arabic script has been used by non-Arabic speaking communities within the
Islamic commonwealth whose languages, such as Persian, Turkish, and
Urdu, etc., are written in the Arabic script.
Arabic calligraphy has also been an attraction to many from different cultures and we are planning to appeal to all those who are interested in exploring a new form of calligraphic art.
The setting
We will have a laptop and a projector which will be used for the induction of
the workshop (5-7 minutes)
Once the induction is finished we will then put on an Arabic Calligraphy slide
show to play in the background while the workshop progress
We will need tables and chairs set up in a U shape. Participants will be setting
while doing practising the calligraphy.
The workshop plan
The workshop will start with an icebreaker where participants will share:
*their name and its meaning
*something they like and why
*a fruit they like and why
The tutor would then build on this and give the participants a demonstration of the different words which were discussed and how they would look with
different styles of Arabic Calligraphy applied.
The participants will then be asked to select one word to practice writing with the art materials provided and the tutor will train the participants to write the word themselves.
The participants will then start practising the new word with the supervision of the tutor until the new word has been mastered.
Once the word they have been practising has been mastered, they will then
start applying it on to a canvas sheet which they will take home with them to
hang on their wall.
Kind regards
Richard Fouad MacLeod
